Garlic Butter Shrimp Ssam
Craving something fresh and flavorful without the effort of a complex prep? This is your winner.
When you're too tired to navigate a heavy meal but still want something satisfying, these shrimp ssam wraps are a lifesaver. We’re taking the classic Korean lettuce wrap and pairing it with succulent garlic-butter shrimp. It feels gourmet because of the fresh greens and bold aromatics, but the actual cooking is incredibly low-friction. You get that perfect hit of savory, buttery goodness balanced by the crunch of the leaves. It's high-reward for very little work—perfect for those nights when you just want to eat something delicious without standing over a hot stove for an hour.
Ingredients
- 1 lb large shrimp — peeled and deveined
- 4 unit garlic cloves — minced
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp honey
- 0.5 tsp ginger — freshly grated
- 1 pinch red pepper flakes
- 10 unit large lettuce leaves — butter lettuce or red leaf lettuce
Method
- 1 Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and toss them in a bowl with the minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes.
- 2 Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 3-4 minutes until they begin to turn pink.
- 3 Stir in the soy sauce and honey. Sauté for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the shrimp evenly.
- 4 Remove from heat and let sit for 1 minute. Serve immediately by spooning a portion of shrimp into each lettuce leaf.
Variations
- Extra Spicy — Add 1 teaspoon of sriracha or chili garlic sauce to the butter mixture.
- Vegetarian Swap — Swap the shrimp for cubed firm tofu or extra-firm tempeh, sautéing until golden before adding sauces.
Notes
For extra texture, you can add sliced cucumbers or shredded carrots inside the wraps.
Equipment that helps
- Large Skillet — Allows for quick searing of the shrimp to lock in flavor without overcooking.
