Easy Miso Black Cod
When you want a high-end dinner feel without the high-effort stress of complex prep.
Look, some nights you just need something that feels like a treat but doesn't require an hour of hovering over a hot stove. This Miso Black Cod is your secret weapon. It uses a simple glaze to transform a piece of fish into something incredibly rich and savory. The 'hard' part—the marinating—can be skipped if you're in a rush by using a quick-glaze method. It’s buttery, slightly sweet, and feels like a restaurant meal served on a Tuesday night when your brain is officially fried.
Ingredients
- 12 oz Black Cod (or substitute with Chilean Sea Bass or Cod fillets)
- 3 tbsp Miso paste
- 2 tbsp Rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Grinded ginger
- 1 pinch Garlic powder
- 2 tbsp Neutral oil (like avocado or canola)
Method
- 1 Preheat your oven to 400°F. Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper.
- 2 In a small bowl, whisk together the miso paste, rice vinegar, sugar, ginger, and garlic powder until smooth.
- 3 Pat the fish fillets dry with a paper towel. Brush a generous amount of the miso mixture over both sides of each fillet.
- 4 Place the fish on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle the oil over the top to help it sear slightly in the oven.
- 5 Roast in the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork and the glaze is bubbling.
- 6 Serve immediately with a scoop of rice or some steamed greens.
Variations
- The Swap — Substitute Black Cod for any white fish like Cod or Halibut if you can't find it at your local shop.
- Faster Prep — Skip the whisking; just mix all glaze ingredients in a small cup and brush it on as you go.
Notes
If you're really exhausted, don't worry about 'perfect' consistency. The miso paste is forgiving; as long as it coats the fish well, the flavor will be incredible.
Equipment that helps
- Baking sheet — Allows for easy cleanup and even roasting of the fish.
