5-Ingredient Caprese Skewers — No-Cook Dinner Ready in 10 Minutes
No stove, no stress — dinner on a stick in under 10 minutes.
When you're too tired to turn on the oven, caprese skewers are your answer. This is barely a recipe — it's more of an assembly job, and that's exactly the point. Thread fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, and basil onto skewers, drizzle with olive oil and balsamic glaze, and you're done. It won't fill you up like a pasta, so pair it with crusty bread or a handful of crackers if you need more. Best eaten immediately while everything is fresh and the basil hasn't wilted. Zero dishes, zero heat, maximum relief.
Ingredients
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella balls (ciliegine or bocconcini) — drained and patted dry
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes — mixed colors if available
- 1 oz fresh basil leaves — about 20–24 medium leaves
- 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tbsp balsamic glaze — store-bought is totally fine
- 1 pinch flaky sea salt
- 1 pinch black pepper — freshly cracked if you have it
Method
- 1 Lay out your skewers on a large plate or cutting board — you'll need about 8 to 10 small skewers or 4 longer ones.
- 2 Fold a basil leaf in half, then thread it onto a skewer, followed by one cherry tomato, another folded basil leaf, and one mozzarella ball. Repeat the pattern until the skewer is full, ending with a tomato.
- 3 Repeat with the remaining skewers until you've used up the ingredients.
- 4 Arrange the finished skewers on a serving plate.
- 5 Drizzle the olive oil evenly over all the skewers, then drizzle the balsamic glaze on top.
- 6 Finish with a pinch of flaky sea salt and cracked black pepper. Serve immediately.
Variations
- Faster swap — Skip the skewers entirely — just toss everything on a plate and drizzle. It's a caprese salad and it takes 3 minutes.
- Add avocado — Cube half a ripe avocado and thread a piece between the tomato and mozzarella on each skewer for extra creaminess and staying power.
- Herb swap — Out of fresh basil? Use a small fresh mint leaf on each skewer — it's unexpected but works surprisingly well with the tomato and mozzarella.
Notes
Buy pre-drained ciliegine (small mozzarella balls) to save yourself a step — they're the perfect skewer size. Balsamic glaze is not the same as balsamic vinegar; the glaze is thick and sweet and makes a huge difference. If you can only find a large mozzarella ball, just slice it into 1-inch chunks. Serve with crusty bread on the side if this needs to be more of a full meal.
Equipment that helps
- Small wooden or bamboo skewers — 6-inch appetizer skewers keep the portions tidy and make it easy to pick up without touching all the food.
