Lemon Garlic Baked Halibut
When you want a high-quality protein dinner without the complicated prep or cleanup.
If you are exhausted after a long day and just need a solid meal without a mountain of dishes, this roasted halibut is your best friend. It utilizes a simple lemon-butter glaze that infuses into the flaky fish while it bakes in the oven, creating a restaurant-quality experience for minimal effort. You can throw this together in about ten minutes before sliding it into the heat. The buttery aroma fills your kitchen instantly, making the house feel like a cozy bistro. Because halibut is so substantial and satisfying, it feels like an indulgent meal even though it uses very few ingredients. It pairs beautifully with a simple side of greens or just some crusty bread to soak up that extra garlic butter.
Ingredients
- 2 unit halibut fillets
- 4 tbsp butter — melted
- 3 unit garlic — minced
- 1 unit lemon
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.5 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried oregano
Method
- 1 Preheat your oven to 400°F and lightly grease a small baking sheet or baking dish.
- 2 In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, minced garlic, half of the lemon juice (about 1.5 tbsp), salt, pepper, and oregano.
- 3 Place the halibut fillets on the prepared pan and brush them generously with the garlic-butter mixture.
- 4 Slice the remaining half of the lemon into thin rounds and tuck them under or on top of each fillet.
- 5 Bake in the center of the oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
- 6 Remove from the oven and let rest for 2 minutes before serving.
Variations
- Faster Substitution — Swap the butter for olive oil if you want to skip the melting step entirely.
- Vegetarian Twist — Replace the fish with thick slices of cauliflower steak brushed with the same garlic-butter sauce.
Notes
If you can't find halibut at your local market, cod or haddock work beautifully as substitutes. Ensure the fish reaches an internal temperature of 145°F.
Equipment that helps
- Baking Sheet — Allows for easy cleanup and even heat distribution during baking.
